I believe that change is possible for anyone, and because of that, there is always something to be hopeful for.  I was introduced to therapy at a young age; since then, I've always wanted to work helping people. My personal journey in therapy has taught me a lot, but most importantly, that I can overcome and be successful no matter what life hands me. I wanted to share what I have learned with others and help them fulfill their potential too.

While unintentional, my first post-graduate position was working with people suffering from addiction and working to integrate mental health treatment into addiction treatment programs.   The prevalence of traumatic experiences among those suffering with addiction and mental health issues was apparent, yet it was not being effectively addressed.  Traditional treatments had limited success because they failed to account for the role that safety plays in the therapeutic relationship.

Fast forward 20 years and the fields of addiction and mental health treatment are drastically different.  They are no longer separate entities as the field has recognized the close relationship between addictive and other mental health disorders.  Being “trauma-informed” and “person-centered” are the newest trends.  However, for me, all of this represents the belief systems I adopted 20 years ago as a new therapist.  It represents the approach I took to working with my clients, to my role as a supervisor with my staff and to the environment that I worked to establish when I had oversight of clinics.  Today, this is the foundation that Raising Hope Mental Health Counseling is built on, and ingrained in all of the work that I do.  My primary goal is to establish a welcoming, warm, comfortable, accepting and safe environment for all of our staff and clients alike.

I believe that people are shaped by the experiences in their lives; we are all products of our environments to some extent.  By exploring what your experiences in life have been, we will work together to help you overcome your difficulties and struggles, move through life changes and transitions and get you to a point of optimal functioning in your life.
